As someone who is a very curious person, about 2 years ago I became interested in synesthesia, particularly with music and color. I started creating playlists based off of different colors and each playlist was the length of a mixtape. A couple of months ago I decided that I wanted to expand on this idea and start writing music of my own to different colors. So here I present to you The Color Mixtape Project: 3 EP’s, 9 songs total, all including songs written to color, by me and Michael Manos.
Red is the color of extremes; of passionate love, seduction, violence, danger, anger and adventure. All 3 songs on this EP were written from a place of frustration, impatience and confusion. It was a part of my life where I was very lost and frustrated, not too mention, confused and I just wanted answers. ‘Red’ was the perfect color to represent the lyrics I wrote for this record. I drew a lot of inspiration from late 90’s-early 00’s Singer-Songwriter Pop Music as well as Indie and Alternative Pop.

Blue represents introspective journeys and symbolizes wisdom and depth of understanding. Stands for serenity, rather than passion, and it’s the color of all that is constant and unchanging. ‘Blue’ explores a softer, romantic writing style with more classic Pop elements. Every song on this record is a song that I wrote about different kinds of love: self-love, beautiful and tragic love, and unrequited love. I was inspired by the music of the 80’s, particularly Synth Pop music, along with Synth Pop music from today.

Orange is the color of joy and creativity and is associated with meanings of enthusiasm, warmth, change, and balance. Orange will help a person recover from disappointments and a wounded heart. It is stimulating, vibrant and flamboyant. Inspired by the late 1960’s-early 1970’s Folk and Disco music, this EP explores the funky and folky instrumentation & writing style of this decade. This is my favorite music I’ve written so far.
